Appliqué Headbands

Since September I've kept my eyes open for the perfect hair accessories for my wedding. After finding a very simple and elegant veil on Ebay, I've been on the search for some type of embellishment for my hair for the reception. I think I've found my next project!

I found some DIY tutorials for lace appliqué headbands and I can't wait to try making one. They're exactly the look I'm going for. I like that they lay flat on your head, making it not too extreme of an accessory. It keeps with the simple yet elegant style I love. I also really like lace.

For Feature Wednesday, I want to show you an applique headband that Sara from Craft Snobs made. On her blog she explains exactly how easy, and inexpensive ($5!), it was to make. I especially love the gold and white colors. Thanks Sara!

Here are a few other pretty applique headbands. The bottom two I found on Etsy. Can you believe some of them are selling for over $100?! One of my favorite things about crafting is that you can make things for so much less than what you can buy them for.

Fabric Flower Tutorial

Flowers I made! The blue one is a shoe clip & I'm undecided on the other. I'll either make it a hair clip or attach it to a headband. What do you think would be cutest? I'm really excited that I'm getting the hang of these. They're a little more difficult to make than I originally anticipated.

5 Step How-To:
  1. Cut round pieces of chiffon. Make them as large or as small as you want. My circles were approximately 2.5 inches across. The number of circles you need will depends on the fullness you want for the flower. I used approx. 10-15.
  2. Pinch the circles together at the bottom and begin hand-sewing them together there. Play around with the way you pinch them to craft the look you want. For example, you can fold in half and then roll the middle circle to make it look like the center of a flower, then fold into 4ths the other circles to put around it.
  3. Cut a round piece of felt to attach to the bottom of the flower.
  4. Decide what you want to use the flower for! If you want to make it a shoe clip, using a hot glue gun, glue the felt piece to the flower & a clip onto the felt. For a flower headband, glue the headband to the bottom of the flower, then glue the felt piece over the headband and onto the flower.
  5. Wear the flare!! =)
The possibilities are endless! I'm brainstorming on ways I can incorporate these into my wedding. Perhaps as decoration at the reception or as boutonnieres for the groomsmen.

    Wedding Invitations

I decided to make the invitations for our wedding to save money. I'm having a lot of fun so far...but let's be honest, I'm only on invitation #3 of ~170. But they're very simple which will save me from insanity.

Here it is, drum roll please!

    I'm using:
    blue cardstock
    white cardstock
    vellum paper
    yellow satin ribbon
    double-sided tape
    & of course, a printer

    The cost break down?
    $133 on cardstock & vellum
    $10 on ribbon
$30 on ivory envelopes from Staples
= $173 total for ~200 invitations, each invitation at 0.87 cents.

I think our save the date postcards tie in well =)...
